Castle toys, did you know they're full of little secrets?
62It’s true you know, castle toys have some really mysterious secrets that I shouldn’t really tell you about. You know fun things like little hidden compartments and things like that. Ooops, now I’ve told you one, darn it! Now I’ve split the beans, I may as well tell you the rest.
Did you know the Playmobil Castle, I think it’s called the Knights Empire Castle, has a really cool trapdoor in the tower? I bet you didn’t, I assume it’s a replica of trapdoors they had in medieval times where if you where talking to the king and they didn’t like you they would open up the trapdoor and you’d slide down a tunnel into one of the dungeon’s or worse into a dragon’s lair!
Oh and of course if you buy a castle playset or one of the castle toys that are popular these days you’ll see most of them have a drawbridge which is really ideal for protecting against possible enemy attacks from neighbouring lords and their toy knights or even the odd Orc horde! If you do get attacked you can get all of your characters inside and raise the drawbridge so that no-one can reach the castle because of the moat!
Some of the castle toys also have a working hoist, I think maybe the Fisher Price castle does? That would be good for moving your cannon’s around to face an enemy invasion, or in quieter times maybe just to more around bales of hay or barrels of wine or beer. It could even be used to string up a particular rowdy peasant so that everyone could throw rotten vegetables at them. Or if they were really bad they may need an overnight visit to the castle dungeon that is available on some of the better castle toys. I think that would cool them down a bit!
A lot of the awesome castle toys that are now available have these great little secrets to them, little doors hidden in nooks and crannies and even little hidden compartments. It would be cool if one had a secret corridor, with the door hidden behind a tapestry or something like that. I think I saw that once in a real castle in England when I was a boy!
As you can see castle toys are really cool for imaginative play, I get to be really imaginative just writing about them so you could imagine how much creative fun your little prince or princess would have when really playing with one. Role playing and imaginative play is so healthy for our young children, that’s why I believe these castle toys are so awesome as a present.
